Educational project and guiding principles

Abat Oliba-Loreto School has its own character which reflects the basic principles of its educational philosophy.

Educational project

The basic features of our proposal are as follows:

Teacher-student relationship

Our school considers the relationship between teacher and student as the center of the whole educational task.

Trilingual education

Trilingual education and the learning of two foreign languages are part of our educational proposal.

Catholic conception

Our educational proposal stems from a Catholic conception of man, life and the world. This demands and allows a confrontation with an authentic model of moral and intellectual life.

Faculty members

Only from the unity of the teaching staff it is possible to carry out this educational proposal. Therefore, the teachers are the main asset of the school.

Rules for coexistence

The daily environment of a school is what really facilitates the education of students. Therefore, both the rules of coexistence and any activity or detail of school life serve this purpose.

Effort, seriousness and truthfulness

Effort, seriousness in the work and truthfulness in the educational relationship are essential for real and effective learning.

Collaboration with families

Parents are the first educators of their children. The school complements the educational action of the family and helps it to grow and mature. This requires close collaboration with families and unity in the educational approach.

Importance of study and personal vocation

Students and their families are invited to verify the sense and suitability of our educational proposal. This will allow them to really discover the importance of study and their personal vocation.

Integral personality development

Teamwork, coexistence and the activities proposed by the school are essential for the integral development of our students' personalities.

Our philosophy

Under a trilingual education and the collaboration of the families, we train and educate our students with the values and knowledge of each educational stage so that their growth and progress is as successful as possible.

Guiding Principles

The family

The family

The family is the natural environment for the growth and education of children. The latter finds in the school the indispensable help for its intellectual and moral growth.

The Center

The Center

The school performs its function by guiding the child's natural desire to know, helping him to look at the reality of things and to seek the answer to their causes and the ultimate cause of everything. The school educates by favoring the child's and young person's encounter with the truth of things, of man and of life. Through this attentive look at the external reality, the child discovers his own inner reality, where he finds the signs of the ultimate reasons for everything.

The School

The School

The school educates through the personal encounter between the student and the accompanying teacher. Although each child and each young person is the irreplaceable protagonist of his or her own growth, the teacher is the intellectual and moral point of reference who, by showing reality, provides the means for its knowledge and the first criteria for judging it.

Respect

Respect

Taking care of things is proof of consideration and respect for those who will use them. The students, following the example of their elders, make amends for offenses against others in people and things, thus learning to be accountable for their own actions and acquiring responsible freedom.

The media

The media

The school must try to have all the useful and necessary means to educate better: bibliographies, computer specialists, technicians... but they know that media used solely by themselves, doesn’t educate unless it is under the direction of the teacher and always keeping in mind the age and condition of the child and young person. The primacy of attention to the word and to the written text helps learning at a natural pace, while shaping understanding in the logical structures of thought and language.

The climate

The climate

The school seeks to create a climate of appreciation for knowledge and for personal progress and that of others. The love of rigorous and demanding work, of patient and constant study, constitute the necessary conditions for the knowledge and development of personal capacities, as well as for the serene acceptance of one's own limitations. Self-knowledge, aided by good work habits, makes it possible to overcome difficulties with a happier and more confident spirit.

Student-Teacher

Student-Teacher

This encounter between student and teacher only occurs in its true sense within a larger community. The teacher finds in it his reference point; the family, his support and the child or young person, the initial experience of a just social life, ordered towards progress in goodness and truth. In the educational community thus understood, the child learns to discern and experience in a daily practice, the possibility of certainties in moral life, validated by the experience of previous generations and lived as a treasure of humanity for all men and women of today and forever.

Duty and gratitude

Duty and gratitude

The school promotes in its students, love and a sense of obedience and gratitude towards their parents and their own family; as well as companionship and friendship to help each other to stay on the best path. Developing a sense of duty and gratitude towards those who accompany us and want the best outcomes for the students. It is the best school of citizenship: it prepares us for solidarity, moves us to seek the common good, to appreciate public heritage, the fruit of the work of many and to require rulers to fulfill their duties of justice towards the governed.

Christian education

Christian education

In reference to Christian education, daily prayer is present in school life at the beginning of each day's work. The school offers the possibility of receiving First Communion, the sacrament of Confirmation and frequent participation in the Eucharist. Religious formation leads to a real practice of the mystery of faith with a generous and responsible attitude of communion with the Universal Church, parents, teachers and classmates, in the midst of a joyful and trusting environment that helps us to be better and to help others to be better as well.

The people

The people

The school, convinced of the supreme value of the dignity of each person, a child of God through Jesus Christ, educates in the respect due to God and his work as the cause of our own dignity. Respect for people, together with an appreciation for truth and goodness, is the foundation of our community. Through respect we are initiated into the duty of loving our neighbor. In the face of people from other cultures and backgrounds, our willingness to share our cultural and human assets with them is the means by which we can reaffirm our educational life in appreciation of what we all have in common.
